The Yellow Dog Project

Join K9 Playtime Academy and friends in backing the worldwide campaign the Yellow Dog Project!

What is The Yellow Dog Project?

The project was created to bring awareness to dogs which need space while training, recovering from surgery, or being rehabilitated.

How does it work?

The Yellow Dog Project encourages owners of dogs in need of a little extra space to tie a yellow ribbon, or a yellow item such as a bandana, to their dog’s collar or leash as a sign that they need some room and would prefer not to be approached by people or dogs.

If you see a dog with a YELLOW ribbon, bandana or similar on the leash or on the dog, this is a dog which needs some space. Please, do not approach this dog or its humans with your dog. They are indicating that their dog cannot be close to other dogs. How close is too close? Only the dog or his people know, so maintain distance and give them time to move out of your way.

Why do they need a yellow ribbon?

There are many reasons why a dog might need a little more space. Some of these reasons might be due to health issues, rehabilitation – the world can be a very scary place for these dogs, having had bad experiences with another dog and in need of the extra space before saying “Hi!”, a bitch being in heat, being an older dog with arthritis, being very nervous or shy and other dogs cause it stress.

If you would like to find out more or help out in your local area then feel free to visit www.yellowdoguk.co.uk where free ribbons and posters can be ordered.

Remember K9 Playtimers, a yellow ribbon on a dog means it needs space!

Happy Training!
